Alewife
Alewife has the average length of around 6 inches and the average weight of 4 ounces. It is silvery with blue luster on back. Common names for Alewife are: mulhade, grey herring, golden shad and skipjack. It is commonly found in lakes Huron, and Ontario.
Alewife Fishing
Alewife is not considered a game fish, as it is way to small for any normal bait. They are fished commercially and used as animal food, and bait fish. Most fishermen who do catch alewife do so at night, by shining a powerful light onto the water, which attracts the alewife, which is then collected with nets. They do this in order to use the alewife as bait fish for trout fishing.
