Chinook Salmon
Chinook Salmon average length is between 15 to 35 inches and can weight as much as 40 pounds (world record is 97 pounds 4 ounces caught in Alaska). It is green to blue green on the back with silvery sides and silvery to white on the underside. Common names for the Chinook Salmon are: kingsalmon and spring salmon. It is commonly found in lakes Superior, Ontario, Huron and Erie.
Popular Bait And Tackle For Chinook Salmon
When fly fishing use wet flies, silver or gold spoons, shiny lures of any color, streamers and nymph patterns. The most productive bait for the Chinook Salmon are spawn sacs, cut bait, alewifes, smelt, cut mackerel, or squid.
Where To Look For Chinook Salmon
Spring: In the begining of the spring the Chinook are located in deep waters, but as the season progresses, they move towards the surface.
Summer: Mid to late summer is when the peac fishing occurs for Chinook's. They are located in about 10 to 20 feet deep waters.
Fall: During the fall fishing you should look for them near the mouths of tributaries as they move up the lakes tributaries to spawn.
