Shortjaw Cisco

Average length of the Shortjaw Cisco is around 12 inches with the average weight of about 2.5 pounds.  It is commonly found in the Great Lakes (excluding Lake Ontario), Lake Nipigon and other larger lakes in Ontario, Manitoba Saskatchewan, Alberta and the North West Territories.  Shortjaw cisco used to be fished commercially, but due to the decline in numbers, they are now being considered for "the species at risk" list.  They are too small to be of any interest to sport fishermen.  The Ontario record shortjaw was 40cm (15.7 inches) long.
